1. This chapter of Indian history is both consequential and sensitive. Why do you believe the story of Emergency must be told to all generations?
I think the story of the Emergency is something every generation should know about. It’s not just an event from the past. People who lived through it still carry those memories but for the younger generation, it’s almost unknown. Through this film, they can see what really happened, understand the struggles and also learn why such things should never be repeated. It’s important that we don’t forget these lessons from history.
2. How did Kangana Ranaut support you in portraying a towering figure like Atal Bihari Vajpayee?
Playing Atal ji was a huge responsibility because he is someone we all respect and admire deeply. Most of us remember him as the Prime Minister in the ’90s and 2000s but very few people know about his early years, his journey as a young leader and how he spoke up during the Emergency. Kangana had done incredible research on this period, and she shared so much material with me like his speeches, his style of speaking, even the little nuances. That guidance made it easier for me to bring out a side of Atal ji that people haven’t seen before.
