Chandigarh/Mohali, 12 February 2026 ( ): The 25th edition of Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026, organised by the National School of Drama (NSD) across the country over 25 days from January 27 to February 20, is considered the world's largest international theatre festival.
The National School of Drama organised the stage play "Kaal Roopam" at the Tagore Theatre in Chandigarh on February 11, 2026. The chief guests for the stage play "Kaal Roopam" were Prashant Choudhary (public figure and businessman), Sangeeta Ghosh (famous actor), and Preeti Ghai (social figure from Delhi).
"Kaal Roopam" left all the theatre-loving audience with goosebumps, and perhaps some quiet thoughts that lingered long after the lights went off, as evidenced by the thunderous applause in the theatre hall. From KD Kashish Devgan's brilliant direction to the powerful performances of the cast, this was pure theatre at its best.
Kaal-Roopam is a deep and mysterious story based on real events that took place in the Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh in 1985. The play aptly portrays the concept of "Parakaya Pravesh" (transmigration) and presents the story of a mother's extraordinary love and the unique experience of motherhood.
The protagonist of the story, Sumitra Singh, is an ordinary woman who is declared dead by doctors. But after some time, a strange spirit enters Sumitra's body. This spirit is that of Shiva Tripathi, a woman who previously lived in the same district and lost her life in a tragic incident.
The central theme of this play is that motherhood is not just a physical or material relationship; it is a deep, spiritual, and eternal bond. The play depicts a mother's love that transcends the boundaries of the physical world and challenges logic and reason. Even after death, a mother's love lives on; she strives to fulfill her responsibilities, even when faced with impossible challenges.
Kaal-Rupam makes it clear that motherhood and motherly love are immortal, transcending death and time. What experiences does Shiva's soul face while inhabiting Sumitra's body? Does she succeed in reaching her children? Can love and motherhood truly transcend boundaries? The play grapples with these questions and exposes the audience to deep psychological and emotional aspects.
